She and her husband, Mark Buehner, moved to New York City in 1985, where they lived for over four years. She attended the University of Utah and Utah State University. She won state and national awards for her writing in her teenage years, but never had confidence to write. ![]() By sixth grade she had written a chapter of a romance novel.
